Frieze is a permanent installation in San Francisco that unites two
levels of workspace across an opening in the floorplate. The
installation celebrates the architectural gesture with light and views
for employees; it provides wayfinding, and creates a new focus and datum
in the workspace. To augment the edge condition, each opening is lined
with a new Frieze: convex or concave forms alternate with an
image-producing digital video array, act as the alternating metope and
triglyph elements of the classical order.
Frieze weaves videos and movement into the interstices between space and
material, throughout the office. By softening the videos and pairing
them with soft fabrics, the installation becomes an architectural
element of the office composition.
